This data set contains Continental Shelf Boundary (CSB) lines in ESRI shapefile format for the BOEM Gulf of Mexico Region. The CSB defines the seaward limit of federally managed OCS lands. The line depicts the limit of U.S. jurisdiction for offshore mineral development. This CSB file only includes the lateral boundaries between the United States and Mexico, or Cuba. That portion of the CSB defined by the 200 nautical mile line is not yet included. The BOEM CSB line is similar to, the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) line published by NOAA, but the CSB may have slight differences. For example the CSB line will include intersection points with the BOEM OCS blocks. Additional details are available from OCS Report MMS 99-0006 - Boundary Development on the Outer Continental Shelf: https://www.boem.gov/uploadedFiles/BOEM/Oil_and_Gas_Energy_Program/Mapping_and_Data/99-0006.pdfBecause GIS projection and topology functions can change or generalize coordinates, these GIS files are considered to be approximate and are NOT an OFFICIAL record for the exact baseline coordinates. The Official Protraction Diagrams (OPDs) and Supplemental Official Block Diagrams (SOBDs) serve as the legal definition for BOEM offshore boundary coordinates and area descriptions. Contains the continental shelf boundary as of March 15, 2013. Used ArcCatalog to create shape files. Shape files put at \\imsnolna04\le\shared\GISPublicInfo.
There are currently no web mapping services available for this layer.
These baseline points and other cadastre information the BOEM produces are generated in accordance with 30 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 556.8 Subpart A, (formerly Part 256.8 Subpart A (2010)) to support Federal land ownership and mineral resource management.
This is the continental shelf boundary from TIMS GOM as of March 15,2013

DATA ELEMENTS – [DDELEMENT]
BDRY_TYPE_
Identifies the type of offshore boundary line.
DATA ELEMENTS – [DDELEMENT]
BDRY_PT_PR
The identifier of an official protraction, which can be one of two types as utilized by the Minerals Management Service (MMS): an Official Protraction Diagram (OPD) or Leasing Map.
Official Protraction Diagrams (OPD's) and Leasing Maps depict approved subdivisions (blocks) of the OCS intended for leasing purposes. OPD's are constructed on the UTM Grid System and utilize the United Nations International Map of the World alpha- numeric numbering system. This worldwide system consists of main blocks (or zones) subdivided into minor blocks, which correspond to individual OPD's. Leasing Maps are the projection of a local (Lambert) State Plane Coordinate System Grid, onto the OCS. This system was developed prior to the more recent mapping system, which is comprised of the OPD's. Leasing Map coverage is limited to the near offshore areas of Louisiana, Texas, and southern California.

BDRY_APRV_
The date the Official Protraction Diagram or Leasing Map is signed by the Federal Government and approved for distribution.
DATA ELEMENTS – [DDELEMENT]
BLOCK_NUMB
Identifies a subdivision of an Official Protraction Diagram.
An OCS block number is an unique and constant designation. However, if changes occur to the map grid system and/or coastline, some blocks could become larger or smaller, or be created or deleted. The total area in a block does not exceed 5,760 acres or 2,304 hectares.
